Year 5

Welcome to the year 5 page.

Most of the work in the Autumn term is based around the Victorians. Children will learn about the era itself, why we study it and how life has changed from then to now.

We also look at prominent children's authors of the era such as Charles Dickens, Lewis Carroll and J.M. Barrie and find out more about their work.

In other areas of the curriculum: in French we study clothes and schooling; in Computing we study programming, art and design on computers and in Science forces and materials and their properties.

During the Spring term the children investigate Natural Disasters such as Earthquakes and Volcanoes.

In Science we study living things and their habitats. This will include a range of investigations and research.

During the Summer term, the children learn all about the Ancient Greeks and their legacy. Myths and Legends are linked to literacy so that the children are immersed in the topic. We then look forward to enjoying the festivities of a Greek Day and feast!

Year 5 Curriculum Information Video Presentation 2021-22
Please find below a link to the Year 5 Curriculum Information presentation. This is a pre-recorded, Zoom put together by the Year 5 teachers, with the aim of giving you more information about the organisation of teaching and learning in the year group. As teachers, we are not professional TV presenters by any means, but have done our best to share as much information in this way as we can! Despite many months of Home Learning, neither of us feel 100% comfortable on camera so please do watch the video and then if you have any questions come and find one of us, Eva Loudon (5L) or Max Stuart (5S), on the playground and chat face to face.
